A guide is listed below to inform you of when your child is eligible to attend 3 year old and/or 4 year old preschool.  In Victoria your child must be 3 or 4 years of age by 30 April in the year they attend the corresponding 3 or 4 year old preschool.

The State Government provides funding to support children to access a kindergarten program in the two years before they start school. The funding is a contribution towards meeting the cost of the kindergarten program. Your child can attend only one funded kindergarten program in a single year.

If your child has already attended a funded kindergarten program you must bring this to our attention. Repeating 4yo without funding approval is not available as per DET guidelines.

If you are considering delaying your child's school entry consider carefully the kindergarten start year also.  Children are not eligible to apply for a repeat 3yo year nor are allowed to have a self-funded repeat year as per DET guidelines

A child cannot commence 3 year old preschool prior to turning 3 years of age due to the Education and Care Services National Regulations and regulations in regards to child:staff ratios and room requirements for under 3's.
